Coaching

I coach CEOs, founders and senior leaders, and the teams they lead.

Why coaching

Your board, your team and your investors all need something from you, and you are often balancing multiple priorities and demands on your time. Coaching gives you time and space with someone to listen and help you think.

I have led teams through fast growth, a regulatory crisis and the early life of a startup. I know how lonely it can feel and how beneficial an executive coach can be for leaders.

One-to-one executive coaching

Sessions are confidential. We work with a topic that is alive for you. We might focus on a decision in front of you, a difficult work relationship, a change of role or how you lead under pressure. We usually meet fortnightly or monthly, for 60 to 90 minutes, typically over six to 12 months.

In this space, I listen closely, ask questions and help you discover important insights and find paths forward.

We meet in person in London or online, with flexibility for global time zones.

Team coaching

I coach leadership teams. We look at how the team makes decisions, handles disagreement and shares responsibility, and what gets in the way. I focus on creating awareness, distributed leadership, growth and development within teams.

All great sports teams train each week to perform on the pitch. Most teams in business spend little time thinking about their team performance and practising to improve.

I have spent much of my career building teams and understanding the frameworks needed to create high performance. I saw this first in rugby. I had England trials, played for Bath under-19s and under-21s, and then played in the National Leagues. Later I saw it at Uber, and then at Gyre, where I was CEO.

At Gyre, we used research-backed methods to coach leaders and their teams. We built software that showed leaders where their team’s performance fell short, and created practices they could use to close those gaps.

To further my understanding of group dynamics and how they show up in organisations, I completed the foundation year at the Institute of Group Analysis. Group analysis studies how people behave in groups. I use it to understand what is happening in a team.
